What is Ropin' Recovery?

Ropin' Recovery is a non-profit organization founded by Nick Villanueva in 2023. Its purpose is to provide a space for people to come together for support. In its early formative months, Nick thought of this as a judgment-free place for people to come together who are struggling with addiction recovery. Nick battled through drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life and wanted to create a sober space similar to AA. Now, Ropin’ Recovery has evolved into an organization that provides peer support for people recovering from many of life’s challenges.

Who is Ropin' Recovery for?

Ropin’ Recovery was envisioned to be a support group for rural LGBTQ people who lived in an environment where asking for help came with challenges with finding support groups or cultural stereotypes that cowboys and cowgirls are expected to be tough and not need help. Then, I realized that this was true for people of all identities. Other subcultures, such as athletes, military personnel, construction workers, and first responders, are just the beginning of a long list of people who might need support. People of specific ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds might have been taught that "strength builds character” and avoided seeking the help they need. So, Ropin' Recovery is for anyone who needs to break the social lie that asking for help is a sign of weakness. Trust me, it took more courage for me to publically announce my addiction past than anything else I have done in my life.
